Description

Effectively a high screen wall, built in 1799 for the ladies of the royal household, who could sit hidden and unseen in comfort, but observe life and festivals on the street below. The small windows and intricate lattice work ensured the ladies' faces could not be seen from below, and simultaneously permitted air circulation and cooling during hot season.
